What do we do when we come face to face with the violence within our own hearts, our very shadow-selves? We are prompted to see that there are two main tendencies, to mar and destroy that which holds our blame, or to deny its existence altogether. But James invites us to witness the nature of Sunflowers: they turn themselves to face the Sun in reception and gratitude - this is the contemplative, Christ way forward for the transformation of our collective and individual darkness.
